Harvest doesn’t leave much room for equipment letting you down. A bit of time spent now checking over your trailer and conveyor can save you a breakdown at the worst possible moment. Here’s what’s worth going over before the season kicks off
TRAILERS
Tyres and wheels – check tread and pressure on every tyre, including the spare (if you have one). Look for cracking, uneven wear or damage from the off season.
Brakes – test electric brakes are working properly across all axles and check brake wiring and connections for wear or corrosion.
Lights and wiring – run through every light – indicators, brake lights, side lights, beacon – and check plugs and wiring for damage.
Chassis, Springs etc. – look over the chassis for cracks or damage, and check springs, axles and the turntable are all in good shape.
Tie-downs and cradles – check winch straps, tie-down points and cradles are in good condition
CONVEYORS
Belt Condition – Check the belt for wear, tears or fryaing and make sure tracking is properly adjusted
Drive components – check the motor, gearbox and drive belts for wear and make sure everything’s running smoothly with no unusual noise
Bearings and rollers – grease bearings and rollers as needed, and check for excessive wear
